Unnamed Song

I started making this a few weeks ago, and Im stuck where Im currently at. I like the way the piece was going, but I dont know what I am going to do to make it longer(I am trying to get it to atleast 3 minutes), Any Suggestions on how to continue it would be great. It is in no way even close to being done, I still have to do alot of stuff with articulations and dynamics, and other things.

And Feedback on what I have already done will always be appreciated.

The idea's nice, but you seem to be dropping into a second movement of sorts. I'd elongate the first part before moving on. From where you cut off, I'd suggest a sweeping melody, with an abundance of bass, cymbal rolls, and the like. When it comes to the actual notes, I can't really help you there, sorry. Try to think big and heavy. Cheers!

Well, midi really sucks ;/ I'm sure it would sound a lot better if played with real instruments and with proper dynamics.

For example, the first phrase the melody is overpowered by the supporting instruments and those instruments all have the same rhythm.

I think if it was properly orchestrated it would sound pretty good. You have a lot of nice independent motives going on near the end.

It would pay off to use some sampled libraries if you can. I'm still don't use them much because it's so much trouble but it is worth the effort if you have the computer power and *money* to get the samples.

I imagine you can turn this into a really nice piece if you orchestrate it properly(mainly dynamics issues).

I'm not sure about the solo bells at the end though ;)

(and by midi I mean the midi synth sounds and normal midi playback issues)

Those samples can be real expensive... check out vsl = vienna symphonic library. Go to their web site and check the demo's they have and you'll be amazed. But I think it's like over 15k$ for the complete library.

You also have GPO = Garritian Professional Orchestra which is cheaper and supposedly has a more of a "film" sound but I think they worse than VSL.

You can, if you look, find everything you need on the net. The hard part is learning to use them well. I still haven't figured out how but I know it involves key switching(a certain group of notes is assigned to different articulations) and some other stuff but IMO the utilities for them are just crap. (Although the new VI stuff from VSL looks promising from what I've read)

As far as your song goes, what I might do is build off the last two phrases to reach a crescendo then work on ending the section to start a new one. You have a lot of stuff you can do so might be best just to dive in and try stuff. Toss the melody around in different groups and use variations in the accompaniment of what you used before.
