First Composistion for Flute and Piano

Featured Replies

It's not very hard, as I wanted to take something easy for my first piece.

Unnamed piece for flute and piano.

Piano part is very repetitive, I know.

Remember that it is very basic and I couldn't figure out where a lot of stuff was in finale.

Not too shabby for a first piece really. I think what it really needs though is a bigger and clearer cadence in the end.

Really the only problem is that the piano chords are all in root position. That'd be an easy way to have the exact same harmony, but not the same chords.

Nice and pretty.

Thanks, I was really hoping everyone would like it. I am only a sophmore in high school, so there isn't a lot of opportunities to be taught how to do much of this stuff. I am hoping to arrange something for flute choir next, so I can broaden my instrumentation in arranging.

This is very good for a first composition.

A few suggestions:

1)The leap in the melody from C to F# below, from measures 5 to 6, is a bit unsettling. Perhaps you want to negotiate this jump using eighth notes instead of quarters.

2)The transition from m. 11 into 12 is a bit hairy. First, you put an F# in the melody over a G major chord, which is very dissonant. You should probably change the note to something that works with a G chord. Secondly, your chord sequence goes from an E minor chord straight to G major, which is a bit illogical in the scope of the piece. Perhaps E-A-D-G instead?

3)Measures 13 and 17 feature a chord of F#, A, and C, which (on it's own) is very dissonant here. You should probably change it to a straight D chord (F#, A, and D) or add the D in with the C to make a D7 chord (but this wouldn't make a logical progression here anyway-- stick with the simple D chord)

Hope I could help.

Okay, I made it a bit longer and added a horrible cadenza.

I am not going to touch this very much anymore.
