Fanfare - for Trumpet and Piano

Hey all,

This is a short piece (around 2 minutes) for solo trumpet and piano accompaniment, which I wrote this past semester for my piano class. I am considering expanding it into a multi-movement trumpet solo, but I'd like to get some opinions on it. What do you think I should do with it?

Well I like it, but it was way to short. It seemed like you had a couple sections then it just stopped. I think more development would make a much better piece.

And those tremolos in the piano are impossible to play. Instead of repeating notes, leave one of them out, like in measure 5 in the left hand, instead of having CD and then DE have CD and then just E. Or in 17 have FA then just C. It would make it a million times easier to play, and I don't think you'd lose too much.

I agree it is rather short; I wrote it to be performed in a class and could not have written it to be any longer, but I am highly considering expanding it (just not sure exactly how I want to approach it yet.)

In regards to the tremolos: the effect I was going for is simply a tremolo-like movement between all three notes, almost as if one was rolling the chord repeatedly (thus, making it very easy to play and not sacrificing any notes). My problem with that was notation--I would personally notate that as three separate whole notes with tremolo indications between all three, but I was unable to do so in Finale. (When it was performed, I made sure the piano player knew what I meant by the tremolo markings). Any suggestions on how to notate this so it is clearer to the performer?

You had a really good thing going from measures 7-12. It was building to something big and lyrical... but then you cut it off abruptly with a weird fast piano thing. I nearly cried.

If I were you, I'd go back to the measure 12 and let the piece develop naturally without being cutoff. :)
