Parallels

hello!

well this is my first post of music here and i'm not sure if i'm posting in the right section but here we go! this is a mock up of a score for a film. it was scored for a quartet and it has been recorded already but this version i'm sharing with you today has the Vienna samples i used for mock ups.

i truly truly hope to get good opinions and for you all to enjoy it!

Beautiful music!

Can you please post the score, if you have one?

The one thing you are missing is the percussion.

This is excellent, very emotional and moving. I really liked the faster section that started around the middle. Those crescendos reminded me of Howard Shore.

The samples are great. It sounds like you put a lot of work into making a realistic mockup.

Good Job!

That really sounds great!

The thing I love most of this peace is that it's so full of change, there are beautiful slow parts and the faster parts sound really cool. I enjoyed every passage of this!

You said this is actually a film score, can you possibly share the film too?

hello, sorry for the late reply! i was out of town and didn't realise my post made it here..lol thanks for the comment!

Im still in the process of experimenting on it while the film is being made as for the score it self, the only one i have is for the violin parts, i can send you that if you want but there is some changes that i've done that didn't make it to the sheet score it self so i'd have to get to that soon.

thanks again!

thank you! the samples are Vienna library instruments. they are great for solo articulations. I will hopefully be posting larger orchestral music of mine that should hopefully show how those samples work in a bigger orchestra fashion.

thanks again!

Hi Sherief. I'd love to hear the live version if possible, it would give your piece more justice!

Firstly I have to say on a personal note that I am not minimalism's biggest fan, but although your piece has many minimalistic elements they are treated in a way that isn't too repetitive and I did not find the piece tiring, unlike a few works by Glass for example.

The very first piano arpeggiated motif is interesting, especially when doubled by the cello. You take it through a completely unexpected chord progression (the descening minor triads) I'm a big fan of using consecutive minor chords, the effect is often startling as is the case with your example.

I also really loved the progression (Gsharp minor to G sharp major), because I really wasn't expecting it. I think the virtual portamento sounded a bit unrealistc at this point, but obviously the real recording will sound very different. So I have to reiterate do you mind sharing the live recording Or would there be problems with that? Did You write this for a commercial project?

I would consider some thicker harmonies for some of the triadic progressions, but then again it might create a feel other than that which you were going for. That's my main criticism as I am a big fan of the rich harmonies of romantic/early modern music!

so sorry for the very late reply! i thought this thread died..lol.. i will actually post late this evening a small part of the theme with the real violins done in a different manner. unfortunately, i had to change the orchestration of this music to include electronic to please the director that it wasn't for.

I've updated the first post! check it out!

Hey Sherief,

Wonderful music! I'm new to experimenting with programs and only have an old Finale, but you've inspired me to try out Vienna Library, too! It sounds very realistic and clear. fascinating effects! Thanks for sharing this here.

Peace, J
