"The Circle" for wind quintet

This is the one single composition I've made that I'm proudest of. I've never written anything atonal before this piece, and combining it with the other elements present, I'm quite satisfied, so I hope I can get it performed... This piece can't be recorded, it must be experienced. It involves whispering, speaking, shouting and walking. You can read the description and check out the score! Please give some comments if there is something I could have done better. (But I'm not going to change it now. The piece is finished.)

It's more theater than music - for me. Also, I see you come from Norway, where the contemporary music has an undeniable heritage from the Darmstadt spirit and its avant-gardisme AND american or british music : in the first case Minimalism, which is ur case, and in the second one, the complexity with Ferneyhough.

Regarding the difficulty, the piece isn't hard to play, it could be a interesting piece for music schools, etc... a sorta approach to contemporary music.

It's so a pity that you didn't put - at least - a MIDI for the "played parts", even if it's ugly ! Do you know the duration ?

It's about 3-4 minutes long, I think :P

And yes, the boundary between music and theater is blurred. It challenges the notion that chamber music has to be played "sitting still and reading the sheet music".

I can of course put up a MIDI file with the played parts if anybody is really interested, but I wouldn't have been. As you say, it can be labeled as minimalistic, the melodic content isn't the most important thing. It's just a part of the whole picture.

Good idea! Really a good idea!!! But.. The buddhist things are always long. I would write it much longer. Because in 3-4 minutes, the audience won't feel the circle. Maybe with repetitions, or with a new, "molto misterioso" part or.. I don't know what would make this piece much better. Great idea!!!

I'd love to see this performed.

I finally made a recording of this piece! :-) It's not really very suitable for a recording, since it's a performance piece, but I've recorded it anyways. the best version is sith 5.1-surround (due to the nature of the piece), but I've made a stereo version too:
