Featured Replies

hii, can anyone help me with composing a blues melody, its my first composition and everything i come up with either sounds like sometihng else or doesnt really sound like a melody plz help!

Well, I write blues all the time.

But since you're a beginner, I'll give you a beginner's lesson.

Typically, a blues melody lasts for 8 bars, 12 bars, or 16 bars.

You probably know the harmonies, but here's a twelve bar blues:

You can add sevenths to any of those chords, but its just the general basic idea.

If you want to write any blues melody that sounds good, use the minor pentatonic. For example, A, C, D, E, G, A.

If you want to be even bluesier, add a sharpened forth, or flatted fifth. For example. A, C, D, Dsharp, E, G, A.

The C Blues is this: C, E flat, F, F sharp, G, B flat, C.

Etc.

Ya know what I'm saying? :excl:

I feel you, baby. :excl:

That's actually a really good, concise description of what happens in blues.
