Something Started Today

So, I just completed this lyric and there are things that need to be fixed big-time. My biggest question is: does the song make sense?

Does it flow? Does it all fit together? Does it make sense?

I'm going to leave it open to critique now, before I start asking my specific questions:

"Something Started Today"

I felt a change occur,

A strange occurrence in my psyche.

I made a minor chord

A finer chord according to my

Wants and desires,

Dreams and aspirations.

Playing with fire's

How I get my motivation.

I am ready to play!

Something started today.

I saw a flare appear,

A rare appearance in my lifetime.

I found it opportune,

The proper tune to tune into the

Things I had hidden,

Lowered expectations,

Waves to be ridden,

What a source of inspiration!

I am ready to ride!

Something started inside!

Something...

Something started...

Something I didn't expect.

No more

Brokenhearted

I am ready to collect!

I want them all to know

The fall to nowhere can be cheated.

I'm in a fantasy!

A man to see the seasons go from

Winter to summer

Didn't stop for springtime.

Once never glummer,

Now it's gold and silver ring time.

I am ready to go!

Something started...

I don't know if I can do it,

Handle all the pressure.

I don't know if I'll get through it

And still come out fresher.

Will I be older and wiser

Or colder and older?

Can I burst like a geyser

And then come back bolder?

Well, older at least.

But I won't miss this feat!

Grab the bull by the horns,

Buy the books, don't rent 'em.

Take the rose with the thorns,

Build up some momentum!

Beyond the bay

Are seas to be charted.

So, come what may

Something started today!

I assume (feel free to correct me) that this is a theatrical song of some kind? If so, I'll ask a perhaps somewhat obvious question: who is singing and why? Or do you have a reason for withholding that information? :P

Overall, this lyric seems very effective to me. The metrical structure and intricate rhyme scheme is very energetic and suits the content well.

I may return with some more specific thoughts later, but one immediate, and sort of generic, thing: the linguistic style, or register or whatever you call it, seems rather inconsistent. Already in the first verse, for instance, there is a large leap from a very formal, intellectual or detached style ("strange occurrence in my psyche", "according to my wants and desires") to a more youthful and energetic one ("playing with fire's how I get my motivation"). If this is a deliberate shift, it would have to be better prepared and more thoroughly executed, but I suspect it's inadvertent. I think a more consistent style would better clarify who this person is and what he or she wants.

Just got back from Louisiana, saw this and wanted to reply quicky before I conk off to bed. It is indeed in theatre style (all my music is, what can I say?) but it's a cabaret song. There is no context, no character, no story. It's not from a show or anything, just exists on its own.
