Welcome to YC.

I tried to open the mus file with Notepad and it doesn't work. Can you post a link to a mp3?

Ron

Thanks for posting a mp3

I suggest you edit your original post and add it there as well.

For a single evening, this is quite good.

You have some talent. Learn all you can and you will only get better.

One more suggestion. If you want people here to comment on your music, it always helps to comment on some of theirs. Some will return the favor, (as it should be) while others are either too busy or too lame to take the few seconds required to type in a response. In time you will learn who will return the favor and who will not.

Hope that helps

I'm 17 and just started taking AP Music Theory this year. I also started composing this year. This is a piece a friend and I composed in a night a couple of weeks ago. It's the third full composition I've worked on, and the first collaboration between us. Tell me what you think! :)

Hey good for you man. Composing is lots of fun, especially when you get to witness the outcome but its going to take up soooo much of your time. Well, it takes up alot of MY time anyway but I love it, so I don't mind at all.

On to more important things:

Overall I think you've created quite a great piece seeing as how little time you've had to work on it and the amount of experience you have. I really like the dissonance you have through out your piece and I think you've come up with a nice melody.

My only concern is if this were to be played by a real orchestra, they might hate you for putting 16th notes, 8th notes, quater note triplets, and 8th note triplets in the same measure. Keep in mind that was only a concern I'm sure they could pull it off haha...

Cool piece.

I'm actually working on a band arrangement of this that a university band has talked about playing. Sam Hazo was down to conduct the Georgia All-State band a few weeks ago, and we had dinner with him and he looked at the band arrangement and made the same mention of the 16th/8ths/triplets thing. I should have the band arrangement done soon.

A piece I quite enjoy, the majority of this enjoyment comes the first section. With the horns especially. There are a few transitions spots where the piece does retain a flow, when I could obviously tell that you were going for in the piece.

Overall a good piece that can always be reworked to sound better.

Wow, a looped violin line with chords/very sparse triplets draped over top. Good for 17, not for real world.

You need to check your ranges on several instruments - trombones can't go that low, trumpets won't like to go that high (for example). And while we're on that note, learn to deal with transposing instruments.

Are those supposed to be triple stops in the strings or divisi?

And I'm sure you think you're "LOL" by naming your piece "PURE AWESOMENESS" - you aren't.

A reasonable sketchpad, but you're delusional if you think this piece is performance ready, and I'm reading it as you do think that - if that's a misinterpretation, my apologies.
