Improving Midi

Are there any programs any one knows about

where you can run a midi through and save it

as mp3 with a better sound... like a Steinway

soundfont for piano?

I would recomend Synthfont: http://www.synthfont.com/

It's a free software that converts midi to wav with the use of soundfonts. For good free soundfonts check:

And you can search in http://www.hammersound.com and http://www.sf2midi.com/ (Fluid, Cadenza, Cadenza Strings, ....)

And I'd also recommend you a reverb utility to use with Synthfont: http://www.dasample.com/index.php?show=glaceverb

I believe Sibelius can do this if you have Kontakt player installed.

I downloaded the grand piano from here and I can't use it. Apparently there isn't enough memory to play even a single note, despite the fact that the soundfont is ~190mb and I have around 450mb free on my system and plenty of soundfont cache. :angry:

Any ideas? I'd love to use it.

Hmm, I actually sort of have that problem too, so I usually use software samplers to load the larger files. I found this workaround by googling a a bit, though:

Now, I've got the answer.

Just rename a small sf2 with the name of the big one.

Load the small sf2.

After this replace this small sf2, put the original in the same location and

with the same name.

Reboot.

The problem is solved.
