Night Music (test recording)

Hi all, this is a solo piano track from my new album 'Rush' which will feature live piano and live string quartet.

This is one track influenced by Chopin and very much a romantic Nocturne.

The playing and recording is very rough, it was just a way of getting the ideas down and is played using logic pianos.

It will be professionally recorded on a real piano in April.

Just wanted to see what people thought of the piece.

Do note, this is my more commercial accessible music, so those who know my other work please don't expect anything like that.

I'm pleased to see this piece has a floating space-like quality about it. And even though it's commercial, it sounds substantially better than many concert music chopin imitations on YC. And that goes a bit too far, as even though you referenced chopin, there's hints here of your own voice; the natural, unforced freedom from the barline (or at least perceptually so) and also that it's pretty convincing as a nocturne with a personal touch. The form was also indicative of a very comprehensible and appropriate ABA form.

Nicely done. The only criticisms: Maybe a bit more intensity in the middle section.

The middle section has more intensity on a real piano as the fast arpeggio figures have greater dynamic control so that they ebb and flow in crescendos to match the phrase of the melody.

I think this is the only piece on the album that has a pastiche quality in it's intentions. I must submit some of the other tracks in sketch form as well at some point!
