fugue for organ

what's wrong with this? help :) i wrote it in the past hour. i'm struggling with fugal writing. i have a few books on it but they are so hard to follow maybe a teacher here too or something would help more... ugh.

I don't really hear anything wrong with it, you just have to carry on and finish it. It sounds pretty good.

I'm afraid everyone struggles with fugues, which is why they are invaluable to write.

It would help if you had a score... from first listen, it sounds like you have incorrect entrances. The fugue exposition means that each voice that enters, enters with the subject verbatim. In addition, there needs to be some sort of a tonal-centrifugal relationship between the entrances. You can't start in the tonic region and go to the raised-submediant region because that doesn't strengthen the overall tonality as strongly as moving to the dominant does.

Finally, it sounds like some of the counterpoint between the voices is incorrect. Make sure that you are following the important counterpoint rules such as voice spacing and parallel/contrary movement rules. Especially on strong beats.

Just to comment, you enter the subject correct after you have been to the dominant, you can go where you want, as long as you end in the tonic, avoid paralell 5th and octaves, and try not to double the thrid ( but they are guidelines not rules ) even palestrine broke hes own rules ;)

can i save as pdfs with finale 09? or some other type of score with just 09 for you to read?

Yes you can save pdf with finale 09, download Cute pDf ( CutePDF - Create PDF for free, Free PDF Utilities, Edit PDF easily;. ) install, select print -> print options -> select cutepdf as printer :)

i know cutepdf i just thought there might have been something i didn't have to download.. like another file version instead of pdf you could read.
