sum1
I've been listening to the iTunes clips of Joe Hisaishi's Princess Mononoke soundtrack, and I was wondering what the woodwind in this clip is – The Journey to the West (iTunes link). It's probably something really common, but I'm a complete band newbie.
Flint
Can't help you... I'm not installing iTunes on my pc, sorry.
Ananth Balijepalli
It sounded to me like a piccolo at the end of the clip. The clip with multiple instruments was too hard for me to dissect into individual instruments.
Tokkemon
It's not a western instrument if that's what you're asking. Best guess would be the Duduk used famously in Gladiator and The Chronicles of Narnia film scores. But since this is a Japanese movie, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Shakuhachi. A western alternative would be either a pan flute or recorder.
sum1
Thanks! I'll research those. I just heard this little clip, and was posessed with a sudden desire to learn how to play that solo instrument. eBay, here I come!
