Fuga a 4

Featured Replies

Hi guys - here is a little fugue for 4 voices SATB. Using voice samples the rendering is pretty decent I think. I don't have any specific text in mind, although it's probably not hard to retrofit later. Let me know what you think - any feedback is most welcome!

Very good work cygnus. I really like this. What vocal sample did you use?

Wow instant feedback ... thank you jawood :)

This is using the East West Symphonic Choir, loaded directly from Sibelius 5.

nice work, maybe the reverb must be worked a little better because in some parts the sound was a bit confusing and not really clear.

Very nice composition :)

OK.

Generally it's very good, but I have a few little nitpicky things.

1. The tenor part should really be written with a treble clef with an 8 (meaning an octave lower). Seeing the tenor part written as it is made me think, he wants us to sing what?? Until I saw the bass clef.

2. You have "rit" but you don't have "a tempo", so in effect the rit carries on and on making the ending the slowest ending on earth. At bar 24 I think you meant "a tempo" rather than accel as this would mean getting quicker and quicker until bar 35 (in other words it could have gathered speed).

3. Rit, accel, etc... should be written in EVERY part not just at the top of the system.

4. Never put dynamics inside bars (measures), especially hairpins (cresc or dim). In choral music, they usually go on top of the voice's system, which I have noticed you mainly do anyway.

5. I would have introduced some phrasing as at the moment the notes seem a little detached and singers could interpret this as singing in a mechanical fashion rather than singing the first 10 notes in one breath, thus creating phrasing.

You say you are using a Sibelius 5 sample? I have Sib 5, but I cannot find that particular sample for the choir - where should I be looking?
