A little more Video Game music... :D

Featured Replies

Ok this is my second little video game project, once again, the legend of zelda. My aim here was not to make it better or change it too much, it was just to learn. It incorporates actual game play sounds, background music, fight music, a chicken crowing, and a song from the original game which I kept exactly the same, just re-recorded I guess.

It's by no means perfect, especially the sound fx :S:S that was the hardest part about it. I had to cut the first bit of it because I just couldn't get a decent horse galloping sound. So yeah some of the fx are either not there at all, sound a little out of place and/or out of time because hey, have you ever tried syncing a million footsteps? :P

I don't know if you're allowed to embed in this site, so i'm just gonna stick a link (nop pun intended:P) right......

HERE

Any feedback would be appreciated :]

cupcakes to all.

Jake

I'd love to give you some feedback, but I just can't figure out which of the music is yours and which is the original, because both are midi and sound similar...

Lol all the music is by me :) And yeah once again it sounds reallly similar... if I changed it too much it'd sound crap... Ir eally should do some research on who wrote for zelda, it's incredible music.

^_^

i think it sounds great. i don't have any critique.

it was really good(Y)

Planning on making music to any other games than zelda?

  • Author

Thankyou very much ^_^

Yeah definately, I just know zelda so well so it's easy to practice with:D Don't really know what yet though... any suggestions?

This pic of cupcakes caught my eye... up for a cupcake cook-off?

Actually I think I might have a go at banjo-kazooie... it's a funny game, so I think it'd be fun. And maybe yoshi's island as well, just make a little background jig. god I love that game.

Ahh, then its pretty good. I'm not a big fan of midi composing but your ideas are cool. I just think you should something with some real instruments, or better sounding samples.

I know about zelda music, but I don't really like it. Not my cup of tea. The soundtracks to Warcraft and World Of warcraft games are incredible, check them out. ;)

I think that the music for zelda is really epic. Alot of music made for nintendo games are. Koji Kondo is incredible. I don't know why you like the music of world of warcraft, nothing special with it according to me. But then again, everyone has different thoughts and perspectives of music.

Wow, very nice. I really liked the sound it made when Link runs haha. Also, I really like your Hyrule Field theme. I was quite sad when you went into the water temple and the video ended. I was excited to hear what you would have done with music in there.

Thanks heaps=] there was actually about an extra minute or two at the beginning of the video that had alot more of the hyrule field theme, but I ended up cutting it because I couldn't get a decent galloping sound for epona haha.

Yeah the water temple would be really fun I think!! I could make it really creepy and echoy... ohh ideas ideas.

;)

I'd love to compose with some real instruments, but aside from a piano and guitar, I can't do anything else, so MIDI is my only real option. I actually think that the samples from Reason are exceptional. I know there are definately better samples out there, but I cbf spending the money lol.

That would be quite interesting though, having a video game that consisted of only one or two intruments that had to adapt for every scene and every moment of the game.

I listened to some of world of warcraft stuff, very cinematic!!! I wasn't massively impressed with it, but then again, no one can really say that they don't like the music for a game/movie/whatever, because the music always has a different goal, and when you think about it, actually does suit the game/movie/whatever really well.

But then we all do have to step outside our boundries and do something different.

That's my rant for the day haha ^_^

Koji Kondo!! that's his name. I knew I knew it somewhere in the back of my head lol.

I downloaded all the sheet music to zelda a little while ago xD one of the best moments of my life haha.

Hehe, it might have something to do with the fact that I really hate the era of nintendo and Zelda :D

Ahh yeah, here is another one for ya: The soundtrack to the latest Prince Of Persia. Inon Zur did it. I think he's the composer who has done the most ost for video-games. He actually specialized in it. He has done a really good job of incorporating eastern feel and instruments with traditional orchestration. Check it out!

Ohhh I have always loved the music for prince of persia! Did he do 'prince of persia: sands of time' aswell? I really liked the amount of guitar in that game.

What's 'ost' btw?

:S

hehe, ost stands for "official sound track"

I'm not sure about other PoP games, but the last one is great, u can always google it ;)

oh lol I knew it was something stupidly obvious like that haha. Yeah I was actually considering buying the game a while back because it looked good, so the music is another reason for me to purchase a pointless game :D

hehe... yes... there is just not enough ways to spend all that money is there??:D

  • Author

haha nope ^_^ Unfortunately I have to do alot of saving at the moment =[=[=[ but I want to go on a video game shopping spree sometime in the near future :D:D:D

Any games you recommend for wii/xbox/pc?

well, assassins creed is good if you like the era of knights templar and holly wars (has a pretty decent soundtrack too)

If you like RPG WoW is a good one. Not that much good games last couple of years really...

I'm awaiting Diablo III myself... (I'm a hopeless Blizzard fan) :D

I heard that Warhammer Online is a good one too, haven't played it tho'

  • Author

Yeah I've only played Wow once, and it was for 5 hours straight, I didn't want to stop. Unfortunately you have to pay for membership though lol and I don't play video games enough to have to pay for it like that.

Mm I haven't heard of any great titles/reviews for this year.

A new zelda game for wii is under progress though :D:D i'm very much looking forward to it hehe
