This is an electronic piece that i just finished.

to create it I made a 20-unit matrix so that I could use serial techniques with quartertones. When I made the matrix, i used numbers instead of pitch names so that I could use the same matrix to serialize the percussive elements as well.

The scale I used is: A, A", A#, A#", B, B", C, C', C#, D, D", E, E', F, F", F#, F#", G, G", G#

The selection of which notes to use was pretty much random.

The rhythms, stereo effects, volume levels, selection of rows and the delay effect on the piano sound are NOT serialized.

I suggest listening through headphones, or stereo speakers-placing them to your sides facing in, rather than in front of you.

Edit.. for some reason I have been saying 21 tones.. when it was really only 20. I fixed this in my post.

it is a very nice piece. Love the fact that it is serialism using 21 tones. The sounds you chose are very cool as well.

I have no real complaints about this piece at all.

Renoise

Renoise is good for something like this, a lot easier then what I've used for mictrotonal electronic music.

I am familiar with it.. I messed around with it for a week or two last year but never really fell in love with it.

it IS flexible though... just a little too unweildy

First thing I'd say is take a look at Stockhausen's Kontakt for tape and piano...

Using a miced piano instead of flat samples might have made it sound a bit less inorganic.

Can't say much, it's just one of those pieces that is what it is. It does have a nice 60's feel to it, if it weren't clearly so digital.

I like the inorganic feel of it.. I have some more realistic samples, but I like the harsh sound of these.

Also.. I don't really have the means to get a good recording of a piano at this time.

It's very good and internesting but why so short ? I heard material to develop 10 more minutes, very much effects that are heard a very few times, so the piano may continue....well that's what I think of course.

anyway is good.

agreed--i would've loved to hear more. great use of the abstract without over-abstracting--this piece still felt like music.
