Recording! Echoes, for flute and guitar

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I recently recorded my flute and guitar duo with real instruments. Since we only had time for two takes, the first movement is slightly rough, but I am quite pleased with the result. A little about the two movements inspired by my trip to Rome:

Echoes...of the fall

The once great Roman empire is suffering its fall..a violent one as the piece crashes down on itself

Echoes...of the ruins

Today, we still see these remains in our surroundings and in the pride and minds of the people living here. Walking through the streets of Rome, the echoes of these memories remain, yet we look forward.

nice :)

'...of the fall' - somewhat works for me like good street/park stuff music (maybe 'the street playing style' guitar) plus a flaneuring (the flowing, running, jumping flute) through, yeah, may be rome as well as any city. it sounded a bit eclectic, but seems it worked.

the same goes for '...the ruins', except more solemn mood and even optimistic at some moments.

if anything, interesting music.

I like it! I'm not usually impressed by flute/guitar music normally, but this works out very well. I think the guitar makes it sound slightly less in the "classical" genre, and it's (to me anyway) a blend of pop-style and folksy music. Great stuff!

I have to say though, in "...of the ruins" I think the flute glissandos around the beginning were a little bit tiring. They got just slightly...well, I wouldn't say annoying, but...repetitive. Overuse of an effect like that (especially on the same note multiple times, like that B)

Very film music influenced, no? Just my way of seeing it. Lovely work!

I don't agree with this statement. I think these glissandos made that song so good. I think the only thing about is that sometimes I would write az extremely long note against of the glissando, but you used really long notes in that song. So I think this is so good like this.

As I can hear, it's not a key-glissando. He/She did it with his/her mouth. Maybe with a holed flute, it could sound better, but I really liked it.

The only thing in this movement, that when you reached that really high note on the flute, there were flagolet notes in the guitar, but I was waiting for a loud thing. If it's your style, okay, I can understand :) But if it was just a grotesque idea or something like this, I'd change it. (No, I wouldn't, because this piece is great :) And I wouldn't listen to a comment which is from a person who is more than 10000 miles away from me :D)

Ah. Well, to each their own I suppose. :D

Echoes of the fall.

1:50 maybe should be more piano. Just to make the dinamic change more obvious.

Start is great. It is tearing apart the Rome really. I like your use of sequences.

Echoes of the ruins

Flute glissandos are really great!

It has very nice harmonies. The only thing that hears like it should be different is the sound of guitar. If it was only with less bass and more treble in sound and maybe more quality recording it would be really something I would like to listen very often! Maybe just a little bit more again (boring me) of a dinamics. It looks to me like there are no piano forte markings accept of the end and the end is very nice!

Overally I like it very much. I hope to hear more of you!

the harmony are very colourfull
