"Leaps" for flute and piano

Featured Replies

This is going to be the second movement of my flute sonata. I've been hard at work on movement one, but I have come upon a bit of creative block there, so I went ahead and started my scherzo to get my mind off movement one for just a while!

I've named the movement "Leaps", as there are a lot of virtuosic jumps runs. (By the way, the first movement is called "Mutations", the third will be called "Cadenzas" and the last will be called "Flourishes".)

It's going to be in a rather liberal ABA form, and last around 2 to 3 minutes. I have not added dynamics yet, and I the staccatos are implied by the "sempre staccato" at the beginning. (If they're not slurred, they're staccato!)

Tell me what you think so far! I think I'm making some good progress. :) Enjoy!

what you need is a development section derived from the first seven note figure in the bass of the piano at the beginning of the piece.

Alas; I finished the piece! >< I did reuse the bass figure again, near the middle and again at the coda. Like...bookends. Not extremely effective, but I didn't want to overuse the motif.

in the pseudo atonal context (perhaps pantonal is a better term) of your piece, I feel that the anchoring of a figure through which the audience or listener can attach themselves and follow, by no mean does it need to be simple but it could as simple as a derrived quotation. but just ideas to bear in mind in future works.
