Asahina's Death

Featured Replies

Hey guys, now that exams are done I have started composing some new music.

This one is for Asahina's death scene from the anime Rahxephon.

For those of you who haven't seen it, just a quick primer so you know why this scene is really tragic:

Ayato (the boy piloting the big white mecha) saves the girl (Asahina), from the Mulians (aliens with blue blood), however he doesn't know that she has been possesed by them and they use her to manifest a giant doll in the real world to attack him.

He goes out to fight it thinking he is protecting her, but because the doll and the possesed human are physically linked, he ends up killing her as he destroys the doll. Tragic irony indeed.

Anyway, see what you think.

Interesting piece. I assume it's pretty difficult to place a piece in with a film. Timing is key, and arranging the piece to the video is key. I liked the ending the most cause it seemed to mix in pretty well with the video. Nice to hear some of your newer stuff.

I actually thought this fit better then the original. I don't know the anime but I just saw both. Yours fits better haha. I wouldn't of used a F horn though. But I like how it was more feminine :)

Beautiful job!

Thanks for the positive feedback :)

what would you have used instead of the F horn Kevin?

If I haven't welcomed you already, welcome to YC.

I like the music, but you seem to be off on a lot of cues.

Most of the time it looks like you didn't set any cues for yourself. You just went with your ideas of the music without regard to what is happening on the screen.

That is not necessarily a bad thing. A lot of composers work that way. I just like the music to follow the scene a little closer.

Still nice music.

It is nice. Sounds like something the anime might have really used.

A very sad scene. I thought your interpretation was relatively good. I don't know if it was just the samples, but I would have liked to see a fuller use of the orchestra during certain parts of the piece. Perhaps more activity with the brass ensemble to enhance the atmosphere a bit more. Just a thought.

Nice work though! I also ways like hearing other people's interpretations of scenes from movies and such.
