A little piece I composed...

Featured Replies

It's meant for a peaceful serene opening and then battle erupts. It's rather repetitive in harmony, i think. Suggestions are welcome.

I hope you enjoy it. =)

I really liked the sound of the jazz guitar that came in right before the "fight erupted". I've always used that sound when composing video-game-style music.

It was very good, but I would have loved to hear that guitar play the same melody it just did with less instruments along side (maybe minus the flute and strings... just the pads and guitar), and then have it erupt into the battle scene with a massive cresendo. I think that would be effective.

Thank you. Hey! You're from Toronto and in University of Toronto? I'm thinking of going into UofT. Maybe I'll meet you there! =) Do you think I can get in with this type of work? Or should I definately improve a lot. Please be honest =)

Awesome!! U of T is an amazing school in terms of faculty and reputation, if you can deal with the bureaucracy in the administration... then agian, it's rampant in any large school.

As for whether you can get it, I am not entirely sure, because I don't study music there! I'm doing Poly Sci/History/Music History (Minor). However, I can tell you that I am active around the music department and have spoken to many of the teacher. Kulesha, who is also the resident composer for the TSO, is an A-Tonal warrior who when presented with my stuff didn't enjoy it. So if he is in charge, I don't know, because your music is clearly tonal (which is a good thing in my book). I can tell you that from what I know he doesn't decide who gets in (good thing!), and that your music is good, so it never hurts to try.

If you do get into U of T, go with Victory College - that's my current college and it's a great community. Thing is, I am going into my 4th year, so not sure I'll see you unless you show up this september! If you do, email me at info@jbelelieu.com and we'll talk music and things over a cider.

Cheers and good luck!

Aww, I'm in Grade 12 right now and my last year. So I guess I wouldn't be seeing you =( Unless you fail, which I hope you don't. =/ And your field looks very very interesting! What is Poly Science anyways? It's not dealing with music, right?

A-Tonal? So, he's into stuff like Prokofiev?

And thanks for the tips. Oh, btw, is Kulesha a mad man by any chance?

Hey, it's nice to see you here!

Your piece is really atmospheric, i actually enjoyed it! :P The peacefull section flows beautifully into the battle theme, and it doesen't seem ''random'' at all, good job!

PS: Grade 12? You americans are crazy! :P

Hey Letehn, so, you're the moderator eh? Great forum!

And thank you... I really enjoyed making this piece. This happens to be one the last big piece I made on Finale. And I have yet to compose something... I'm either lazy or just not inspired enough.

One memorable experience involved 8 people drilling a girl

Hahaha! I'm sorry.... but I couldn't help but find that a bit dirty. =/

I would love to meet this Kulesha, he would help me greatly. Right now, I'm attempting very random non-tonal music on finale. I'll post what I have a little later... it sounds bit odd.

And thanks, I hope you pass your last and pursue your dream career. What ever that may be.... Oh! And you compose.. I checked you site but there aren't any recordings. Where can I hear them? :P

edit: Nevermind, your site does have recordings. =O Checking it out!

Here's the weird atonal piece I was working on. I doesn't make any sense, it has absolutely no theme or direction. All random sections.. =P

I'd say your description is accurate. This is a nice peaceful piee. I feel like it is from a video game, and the hero is getting their big entrance. Quite nice to listen to! :P

I like it! It's just plain nifty sounding! Great chord changes all throughout! :P

Heh, thank you. I'm glad you liked them both. The atonal piece was really really weird.... I guess after listening to Prokofiev for 3 hours straight, I felt like making it. :P

Well, here's what i think. Hero's Might certainly has a great tempo change in the middle, but that usually makes the audience more atractted to the piece. For Awkward, i think it sounded like a piece from Prokofiev, random yet it works. Great Work, Keep it up.

Yeh, it sounds kind of like Prokofiev-ish, or some other goofy 20th-century Russian composer :P - not atonal at all, but more of a chromatic feel to it. Still, it's a neat little piece, though I reserve further comments until it's finished. Hero's Might isn't too shabby either, thoug I was expecting more dynamic of seperation from the "peaceful" section and the "battle section". Keep it up .

Heh, goofy eh? I... guess... I can that the as a ...compliment? o-O;; Thanks for the comment =) And yeah, I'm not very good with dynamics on Finale partly due to the fact I have no idea how to. =/

And this was a piece I made a while ago. This was when I was immature so it's probably really messy (7 minutes of like 4 songs put together =P). I have yet to edit it... maybe later. Or can you guys help me or suggest any ideas?

sepharite_bled_winter.mid

Well, I don't know what to say about this piece. You certainly have a great theme to it very solemn, very, hmm whats the word, very....... darn i can't at the moment sorry. When the word comes to mind I'll let you know. But it's a great piece, Great Work! I especially like the piano part starting around 3:00. Keep it up.

Thank you, Achan. I hope you find that wokr you'll looking for. I bet it's some along the line of crap...poo.... smelly, yes? =P

And I've done a little more on the proko piece... starting to add some Orchestration in it.

WOW!!! I love this piece, my favourite part is when the strings come in. When its finished tell me I would like to continue to hear this. It is very very amusing Ryan! Great Work.

  • Author

Thank you. Though, I'm losing interesting in this piece. Probably cause I completely changed it now... heh... just listen and see =(

Yay beautiful strings. I love it Ryan. Keep working on it. It has great theme, melody, and at the same time alittle random to fit it all into place. excellent work Ryan. Keep it up!

Thanks, Adam.

Here's the midi.... the strings imo, don't really fit on the MP3 but I'm too lazy to change it. haha =P
