Waltz for Brass Quintet

Featured Replies

This simple piece was inspired by a band I heard in a beer garden while visiting Germany- though I wouldn't be suprised if I subconsciously borrowed from some parts of their music.

The MIDI is the original, the MP3 is an arrangement (for piano) made by my piano teacher .

It's an interesting little piece, but the harmony (and of course, rhythm) doesn't moves a whole lot, so it kinda gets boring (until the brass explodes near the end, at least :P). But still, it seems to be pretty well arranged, and the theme, though a bit simplistic for my tastes, is always hearable. One tip I have for you is when writing a Waltz, don't necessarily keep the whole piece in the 3/4 beat - have little breaks and flourishes here and there to keep the piece more interesting throughout (for example, you could perhaps end each phrase with a 5/4 pick-up to the next). Hope to hear more from you, though.

At the beginning I didn't like how you used your instruments. Something striked me as odd. I couldn't focus on the music, because I kept thinking it is very odd. I liked your piece though and I don't agree that you should add 5/4 part, but i do think you should make it a bit more exciting.

I really like the theme from this piece!

If I may be as bold to offer a suggestion if you are planning on developing this piece in any way, try variations on the theme, major/minor, time signature, tempo, or moving the theme through the instrumentation. i feel really cheeky!

The piano arrangement by the way was very very good, hey maybe try even amalgating piano into the brass arrangement, different, but could really work!

This was a really easy piece to listen to, very tonal and nice. I can't do much more than echo other people as far as critiques, really nice theme, but it could use some variation.

Definitely nicely constructed, and like I said, really easy to listen to. I especially like the bit around 1:40, though the dynamic change felt a little sudden at the end of that section. This is really nice sounding work.

Your Brass Quintet/Waltz is pretty good. Although it starts to sound alittle repetitive. I suggest maybe adding more dynamics. I certainly like it for one fact, and for another I'd like it even more if you added some dynamics. Great Work Kasplurpo.
