I thought it was a lovely piece that kept me entertained the whole time. Though I enjoyed the melody, my favorite part was the backgrounds, with the many eighth notes.

One suggestion I would make would be to not transpose so much exactly. For example, don't have the bassoon, cello and contrabass all playing the exact same notes. Have them play the same rythym if you want, but add harmonic interest.

Thanks for listening. I'm aware of the flaws you both mentioned and I will do my best to avoid them when I write more serious pieces. I'm interested to hear more about the flaws in the orchestration part, this being the purpose in attempting it. I won't take them too hard so please don't keep me in the dark...

No, I was talking about myself, all I do is copy paste on finale.

Orchestration looks fine to me.

There are 2 reasons to have the Bassoons and the Cellos together. One is for timbre the other is for loudness. You may want the loudness from time to time, but not always. The same timbre gets boring after awhile so you don't want to always double the cellos with the bassoons.

I like the piece but honestly think it is too fast for the material. Try slowing the tempo to 90 bpm and see what you think then. You can always have a section at the faster tempo, but this just seems too hurried.

Brass in general and the trumpets in particular should usually be used more sparingly in a a piece. Trumpets can over shadow every other instrument and again, too much of one thing can get boring. You want your timbres to flow into and around each other more than stand on top of each other.

In other words, just because you have all of these instruments, doesn't mean they all have to be playing so much.

You have done that some in small sections, but it would help if you did it more.

A little bit of an intro of course would help, as would a contrast at some point.

Dissonance is a great tool that usually works best when presented in one group of instruments. You dont want to be showing dissonance say with the strings and the horns. Do it all in the horns or all in the strings.

These are all things that in time you would figure out for yourself, but it usually helps if you learn it all earlier instead of later.

Pick up a copy of Rimsky-Korsakovs book on Orchestration or any other number of books that go into more detail. It might even help you to look into a program called The Secret Composer. Look for the thread in Composer's Headquaters and download their demo.

You have a lot of good ideas in this that just need some discipline.
