Link to score without downloading it ^^ Need to find a way to compress an mp3 because box.net won't play the other one.

Hello, I'm new to this site. I am currently taking a year out, to get some money and do some composing. I am hopefully going to go to Glasgow University next year to study music. So I've decided to upload my first piece which I consider opus 1.

Here is a little about the piece:

I wrote this piece for my advanced higher music composing. It is for solo classical guitar. I wrote for this as it is my main instrument and it is based on a piece that done for my out of school grade 6 exam.

I began to think of a chord progression I would use for the first section in this piece, I used chords such as E6’s, minor 7ths and diminished chords. I used syncopation allot in this piece. The piece I was basing this on used percussion techniques on the guitar, which I decided would be a good concept to use. I was also interested in writing Programme music, and I wanted this piece to tell a story. This piece tells the story of a sparrow wandering into danger. My friend came up with the title as a joke, and I decided to create a little story.

The Beginning of the piece starts with broken chords and finishes with the percussion technique. Section A contains rubato and many changes in dynamics; this section represents the playfulness and curiosity of the sparrow. The middle section begins with a syncopated bass line in the key of the tonic minor, an inverted pedal is introduced; this section describes a chase or brawl between the sparrow and a predator that it has stumbled into. This section continues with a series of Latin-like chords which, when finished, slow down with a rallentando and get quieter too.

The middle section ends with long quiet chords (ppp) with a change in tempo (largo), which describes the sparrow avoiding danger and returning to safety. Harmonics are used, this section modulates back to E major. The first section is then repeated; however this time it contains ornaments like turns and trills. The piece ends with a mordent. The various ornaments represent how the sparrow is now more playful than ever.

I decided that this piece should be in ternary form, and that the middle section should contrast the rest of the piece by being minor, instead of major in the first and last sections. I decided that the middle section would change keys to the minor tonic. I also decided that I would have the minor tonic modulate back into the major.

At first I had to decide whether I would need one guitar, two guitars or even a two guitars with an acoustic bass. I decided to make it just for solo guitar, as compositions such as those are what I am used to.

I hope you enjoy.

Please give any feedback.

Thanks!

Sorry for long wait, it's all up now. Review please?

Wow could you post a streaming link from box.net all you do is push share under it and copy link. 18.5mb probably won't get downloaded that often. Same with the pdf so we can preview it without downloading.

I am anxious to listen to it but since it can only be downloaded as an .m4a, I can not play it. A streaming link would be appreciated from me, too.

boxnet can't play that type of file, the mp3 is too large. do you know how to compress an mp3?

I haven't personally tested it, just searched on google and it was the first thing that popped up. Looks like it gets the job done, though.
