Welcome to YC.

I don't think you have to worry about 27 being too old for going back to school. I went back when I was 48 and just graduated this year. My degree is in math, so I have had very little musical training other than what I have taught myself.

So based on no professional credentials, I will give you my unbiased opinion.

You will fit in here just fine. Your talent shows thru in this piece.

I have listened to the other one also, but will go and take another listen.

It always helps to comment in other posts. Some of the members will actually return the favor.

I personally thought this was good.

I got the sense that someone was "sneaking around" through some type of jungle/tomb or something of that .

Sounds good.

I liked it, but at first the clapping (it's clapping, right?) seemed misleading - I thought it was going to be a Spanish dance-y song or something. Not that being "misleading" is a bad thing, but maybe there is a more fitting percussion instrument, though I liked the rhythm of the percussion you used. But, I liked the snares and toms you used. The deep, echo-y sound was fitting in that respect.

Maybe instead of clapping, noodle with suspended cymbals and stuff.

I liked the clapping, and the percussion you used it. I agree with SaXoPhoNe, this did indeed remind me of someone sneaking around. I liked the melody as well as the instrumentation. :)

Good job!

:happytears:Thank you so much! Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, you're right that I shouldn't feel so embarrassed changing majors after all this time. I try to tell myself that life really has no rules on when and how I'm supposed to do something with it. I think I mostly feel my knowledge about the "science" of music is a little inadequate and I get embarrassed when I talk to people who've had lessons since childhood, but I think I'm starting to catch up a little. I will listen to your music some more so I can give a decent critique, as well as others. Thanks again!:)

Thanks so much! I never thought about the "sneaking around" idea before, nor the jungle/tomb idea. That's very interesting! I appreciate your thoughts. :D

:DThank your for your thoughts. Yes, it is clapping. Originally, I wanted to use a castanet sound, but I think I just liked the more subdued, softer clack of the clapping (if that makes ANY sense). The cymbals sound like a good idea. Uh, fell free to laugh at me, but what do you mean by "noodle"? :veryunsure::sweat:

:DThank you! It's so funny; I NEVER thought about that "sneaking around" thing. That's cool! I love hearing people's interpretations. I'm happy you like it. Thanks again!:)
