Violin Sonata No. 1 in Am

I will start by saying that this piece was recently recorded live by two amazing musicians. However, because I had to change pianists at the last minute (30 mins before the performance), the pianist only had about 10 minutes to practice it. Given the circumstances, she did a fine job, which is indicative of her talent. However, just a heads up that there are many many mistakes in the piano part. The violin on the other hand is flawless, and mark this man's name, because one day he will be famous (he currently is my roommate - great guy!).

Anyway, I'd go through all the different mistakes in the piano, but rather than do that I'll just let you listen, because despite these mistakes, it still did turn out well.

The piece is very meaningful to me, so I won't deface it by giving you the standardly-accepted posting rules format... I fear that whatever I say won't grasp how much emotion I threw into this piece when I was composing it.

I'm a bit blown away.

I don't have a trained-enough ear to catch many of the piano mistakes, or to offer any really valuable critique, but this is good enough to save the mp3 to harddrive.

I especially like the segues from the faster portions to the slower.

But, if I can say ONE thing...the piece was great, but the violinist bugged me. Just the way he/she played it. I mean the playing was fantastic too..just...some spots....arrgh i can't explain it. Ignore this.

The violinist puts more into emotion than technique, this despite the fact that his technique is amazing. However some people might find his playing overly emotional at times I suppose.

oh gosh. there's so much depth in this piece! the way the tempos fluctuate and the seemingly flawless and breakless transitions are, in my opinion, crafted to perfection. this is beautiful :)

overly emotional is good. I LOVE overly emotional, by all means EXPLODE with emotion...I just found some of it...unexplainably bothersome. Kind of like Brahms.

quite good quite good and I'm sure having this as a live performance helped very much! I can certainly here the emotion of the piece. I was only bothered in one little way... for about half of it I didn't think the piano and violin really went together, almost like they were their own pieces related in no way but there were some parts where it was great. DUH ME!!! Perhaps this is because of the mistakes you mentioned with the piano part. I'm hitting myself over the head now, I'll bet if it were mistake free I would have loved the whole thing. You are a really good composer! Keep composing! I want to hear more from you in the future.

I'm thinking that it was... the piece was written as an interaction between the two instruments. Many of the mistakes the pianist made were complete omissions of parts!! It was painful to hear that at the time, but the recording turned out decently, so I don't mind it too much any more. Still, I know what could have been and what was... sigh.
