I hope that this link gets you to the songs.

This is my first string quartet that I have written. It was more to learn about strings and their capabilities. I have not yet started to put in the finishing touches because I want to see what people think of it and if I should add more.

Note: I forgot to add the tempo in the beginning so here they are:

1. cut time with half note = 75

2. quarter = 60

3. quarter = 130

4. quarter = 120

I didn't see anything "wrong" with the string writing. However, bowings, whether that is slurs, up bow, down bows, or whatever, are a good thing to add. Bowing can, if used correctly, can help control the pulse and pace of a piece. With your quartet, I noticed it is all very square from measure to measure.

I am only going to end with I liked it.

I will add that with the finishing touches, thank you.

To me it seems like that if the player can keep the beat, it won't be that hard.

My concern isn't the player. With no ties or slurs, the bow changes fall on the beat almost every time. (don't get me wrong you have a different rythm in places that provides a lovely change (2nd mov). I wish you explored that a bit more.) What happens is it becomes some what rigid and a like a metronome. This wears on the audience.

By pulse and pace, I mean softening some beats while accentuating others, through bow changes for example, gives contrast and shape to the piece. Otherwise it begins to become a little stale.

Oh. Well I have just started adding bowings and slurs and dynamics and etc.

Thanks.

I would love to take a look once you are completely finished.

Good luck, and have fun. ;)
