Weirdness for 2 Hands

I havn't added a piece of music to this forum in a little while. My inspiration for Weirdness came from me and my girlfriends weirdness. Basically, I wanted to compose a piece of music to be as weird as possible.

1. Techniques used

When I was composing this piece I decided to muck around with a lot of different harmonys. This piece has an original style. I used a lot of my knowledge on different keys and chords to write this piece.

2. How long it took to compose the piece

This piece took me about 2 hours, though it is good none the less.

3. Structure of your piece

I structured this piece to sound as weird as possible. At the start it is changing from augmented to diminished chords, as well as magor to relative minor. Eventually it reaches a stage when I alternate between dim and aug chords while progressing up the key signatures before resolving it and changing tempo. Then I used a chord that I made up, the dimented chord, a mix between diminished and augmented. Basically it has 4 notes. The first note of the key, the 3rd note lowered of the key, the 3rd note natural of the key then the 5th note of the key. Togther they sound awful but separate they sound really good and really weird. Then after that it goes back and repeats the start then it ends with my dimented chord runs.

4. Obstacles when composing

I had some trouble when it came to adding in the alternation between aug and dim and the keys. It took me about half an hour to do 3 bars doing this. Also I had a little trouble because I couldn't add a foot pedal, but I partially fixed this by using minum's instead of semi quavers, as this gave the same effect.

5. Summary of overall piece

Overall, I think I have achieved my goal of making this piece as weird as possible. I beleive that this might be one of my best pieces ever.

I like what you have so far; I think you accomplish the feel you wanted very well. But perhaps I can add some more chords to your "weird vocabulary?" First, the augmented sixth chord (particularly the french one) is a wonderful addition to any "weird" sound. You start on any key, go up a major third, up a major second, then another major third. The whole tone scale is a wonderful technique as well. Start on any key and play a scale, but ONLY go up by whole steps. The interesting thing about the whole tone scale is that any of the notes played together will sound "right." Also, explore usage of major seconds played simultaneously or perhaps adding some ninths and 11ths and thirteenths into your chords.

This is great. The blocks of texture within the harmony are really dramatic especially the way that they are placed rhythmically at the start, the arpeggios have an almost comedic effect. I like the chord rhythms at 56 seconds. It really breaks the peice up in a very tasteful way. Great stuff.

You got your point across about weirdness!!! These are just a few things that I found that you might consider.

1. Having more of a begging. I felt like you jumped right into a moving bass in the beginning. You might try smoothing that out a bit. Jumping wright into songs is ok but make sure to have a good intro.

2. I liked how you used the chords in the beginning ,and changes the rhythms. Really good!

3. You play a sustained note in the bass ,than speed that up. Nice touch ,but after a while that gets pretty boring. The right hand is moving ,and that is all good but the bass makes the right hand boring.

3. The part after the sustained bass I really like. I would have to say that is my favorite part of the song. I wouldn't change anything there.

4. I like how you take the sustained bass at the end ,and end with it. The only thing that I would change at the end is maybe smooth is out. It seams that you just started the song a bit ago and your all ready ending??? If you want to keep this song this length, I would have a longer ending.
