Sonata for Band

Featured Replies

So here's a little three movement... attempt. I got generally bored this summer and tried my hand at Finale Lite, or whatever it's called. I dream of scoring this for a larger group, like a concert band. Right now it's just a piano draft. The scores are a mess, and I guess I'm just posting them as a reference if one should like it.

The idea of a BAND SONATA is Noble! I really admire that!

The individual movements I found lacking. The shape is insufficient (not that I am a complete expert yet) but it doesn't sound if there are much going on.

The first movement was really weird! It was so happy! I was quite surprised! This Sonata reminds me of a Boy Band you know. :)

Orchestrated (for band) I think your ideas are going to work. But the pieces are not sufficient. They are too simple. You could make the sonata longer and expound your ideas. You see, when writing a rare piece like this you should make it worthwhile to perform.

Keep on writing. I am looking forward to the final work!

I listened to most of this. Nice writing. A Sonata is based around themes and development. Things of course are looser these days. If sections 4,5, and 6 are to go in one movement, put them together and add some transitions. The theme from 4 should reappear in 6 more prominent. If #5 is the development, change keys, add the main them back in there, etc. A lot of potential though. I've been composing this summer and finding repetition is not a bad thing at all; especially if it is good music.
