September 8, 200916 yr I have now posted the remaining parts to this piece, so go here to listen http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/cme-2012-completed-version-21842.html CME stands for Coronal Mass Ejection. 2012 will be when the next heavy concentrations of Sunspots will take place. This piece is background music for a Discovery Channel type show based on the sun and its properties. The scene starts out with the camera doing a close up of the Sun. Then the camera backs away towards Earth while the narrator explains the distance to the sun, etc. Then the narrator explains the magnetic fields on the sun and how they can build up enormous amounts of energy and how the magnetic fields can get twisted up and like springs, these fields can build up enough energy that they have to go off and when they do, they can send the same amount of mass out as the mass in Mt Everest. The scene then shows the magnetic fields getting stronger and stronger until at the very end of the piece, the mass is ejected in a CME. I am working on the companion piece to this one where all of that mass is headed towards Earth and what that could mean for our planet and life on it. (It's not a pretty picture). Here it is. CME 2012 The piece uses EWQL Gold and was composed in Sonar 8 PE
September 8, 200916 yr I liked the percussion as well as the brass at the very beginning. I definitely got the close up of the sun feel from it. I liked the woodwind part near the end of the middle-ish section a lot too. Are you going to put this music with an actual video of this? I think that would be interesting . Can't wait to hear the companion piece!
September 8, 200916 yr Author Wendell I don't know yet if I will be allowed to post the video or not. If I am allowed, I will post it. Thanks Ron
September 8, 200916 yr rolifer, I definitely dig this piece. For some reason I see one of those old-school style animated educational pieces, with the tenor-voiced, british narrator talking about the destructive power of the sun. Don't take that the wrong way either, that's a huge compliment (most of those animated pieces had amazing music). I think it's the chromatics in it that gives me that feel. In any event, great work, as always!
September 9, 200916 yr I agree with the above poster.. It's pretty interesting harmonics you got going on here, as usual. I also like the arrangement, it's pretty powerful.
September 12, 200916 yr Interesting piece, Ron. I liked the overall feel of this piece in it's portrayal of the Sun and the situation. I wouldn't mind watching the DC type show to see this implemented. However, I must say that this is much shorter than most if not all your other pieces. Are you planning to write the other segments for the show as well, if so how is that going? Anyway, nice piece. Looking forward to more. :P
