You're in C maj I guess. I'll give you chords 2 per bar. Cmaj Abmaj/ Abmaj G7sus/ Cmaj Amaj(change that Db to a C#) /Dmin atfer this chord I hear that last chord as an Amin with an E in the bass. Like i6/4 V i, but it doesn't do that. Does that help?

It's not simply modal. It sounds modal to me, but I;m not so into named scales or anything [compositionally. obviously you need to be able to talk about your piece etc etc etc.]

What I'd do is figure out what you have - orchestral, melodically, and harmonically, right in those 8 bars or whatever - and subvert it. You have a clear statement - you need a counterstatement, and not necessarily a melodic one. Let rise and bake for 1:30 at 400

Sounds more like it's based on mediants to me (chords related by third degrees instead of fifth degrees). :)

Try to have something contrasting this, something more "cheerful", or "hopeful" perhaps.

I say after the theme is stated have a harp come in. That's what I felt my heart longed for most after hearing that.

Not really modal..in Emin to begin with but the way you spell notes makes it more confusing..you write Eb instead of D# then you wrote Ab, a flat fourth degree which sound like G#, as would be present in E major. What is perhaps playing tricks on you is that by measure 4, C effectively sounds like the tonic. This is due to the movement of the Eb(D#) to E in the oboe and the G and C in the clarinet..From there, C temporarily sounds tonic until the restatement of the theme. This creates a pretty interesting basic idea.
