Here's a couple more to cast your ears over, and I feel I should also explain the whys and what fors.

I started using sibelius with garritans a couple of months ago and to try to learn the program I thought i'd try and write some simple piano pieces for learners/intermediates with a view to developing parts of them into some orchestral pieces as I learnt the idiosyncracies of the program.

Some of them are indeed basic, and any suggestions would be welcome especially when it comes to writing the orchestral pieces!

Some of the dynamics etc (ie left/right hand balance) weren't quite finished to my satisfaction so bear that in mind! :P

The first piece has a nice slow sately pace to it. It's the sort of thing one might expect to hear as a middle movement to a Sonata. The themes are interesting and are developed well. I can imagine myself in a Piano Recital watching the pianist lean over the keys and swaying slowly in time to the beat.

This second piece is less convincing in that regard, although there is definite potential material in here. The almost meditative opening seems a bit overly loud. But the faster section that immediately follow sit makes for an excellent first theme to a Sonata first movement. However, you cut it far too short and deny us the full potential of the musical ideas. The last third of the piece would make for an excellent conclusion to a Sonata, the coda to the last movement that is. Definitely take some time and think about recasting this as a small Sonata.
