Chromatique Train

Featured Replies

I was messing around on the piano yesterday and came up with this brief melody which reminded me of a train. The piece is chromatic, hence "chromatique train" (the name of the piece). It's short and I had fun making it. The possibility of playing it is questionable at times, it could be used for a player piano I guess.

More importantly, I have a question for all of you who are in/been to college for music.

I was thinking, and I'm having a really hard time deciding whether to go with a piano major or a composition major. I really love playing piano, really enjoy performing and getting help from the professors who let you have recitals and stuff. But on the other hand, if I do composition (which I love) I won't be able to do recitals anymore or get to play a piano concerto my senior year, but I will get educated further in composition. There's much more to the story which I don't want to explain, but if you had a similar experience, it'd be nice if you gave me some helpful advice.

Hey! Nice work here. I'm quite... wow!! :D I mean, ok, I don't play piano myself (I wish though :( ) but the idea of a train popped right into my mind, especially after bar 9. Interesting. Now as I write, the piece started for a 3rd time and I will let it play again :D

And as for your problem? If you choose a piano major, can't you study composition in private or such?

Hey thanks man, really appreciate the comment.

That's a good question. I'd have to talk with the professors about it, though I already am majoring in computer sciences, which allows just enough room for an extra major (piano or composition). The music school is really intense to get into so it's hard to say right now what exactly will happen.

Thanks again for commenting, good luck to ya! :D
