Apollo's Compositions

Okay! I'm gonna start things off with a piano piece and an orchestral piece of mine.

Constructive criticism encouraged. ^_^

The piano piece had a nice build. The best part for me was towards the end when the bass sped things up and slowed down a bit for some variation. At first, I thought the beginning was a little repetitive for me, and I wanted to hear some more variation in the chord progression sooner and maybe a little more with the melody, but now i think it might be fine as it is to provide contrast with the end. Overall, a nice example of theme and variation.

The orchestrated piece demonstrates a nice use of staccato. Pretty well arranged. I feel somewhat the same about this piece, too. I was hoping to hear the melody take me along another path, but it's up to you.

Hey. I really liked this piece alot just it has a lonely aura around the song alomost. The name definetly fits this song. Dwelling In The Dark Orchestra Is also very good. Its got a mysterious tone around it, always makes my wonder, and wonder. Great Work Keep it all up!!!

Teardrop-I love the intensity you built up at the end and how you resolved it. Very good job.

Orch-When you had the strings in pizz something sounded really off about it. However, I really liked the piece. Ir had a very dark mood to it. Ending needs work...

Teardrops - Wow, very nice. Basically I have to say what the others said... The desolate, sad mood was very well portrayed. You lost it when the bass got louder and the piece gets faster, but I think it sounds like anger there... which you were probably trying to portray, methinks. The ending was good, but for me I would've preferred if immediately after the pause (right at 3:40) you would've just had one soft final chord. Overall, the ending didn't feel that finished with the notes still moving... But what you did was very good.

Dwelling in the Dark Orchestra - I don't know if you meant it, but there seemed to often be quite a bit of dissonance. But, it fit the piece and made it spookier. I liked the pizzicato the most. Near the end it seemed to wander a bit. The very ending was cut off for me... Overall, very good!

Teardrops is definitely a well done piece. Repetitive without being boring, mainly because you build up the intensity of the piece as you progress. That's exactly what you should be doing if you are going to do something along these lines. Excellent job! The sense of melancholy nearly bursting over into rage there at the end was well handled.

Dwelling in the Dark is less compelling to me. You have some interesting ideas here, but tey don't seem to quite gell the way that your idea did in Teardrops. I think they want more room to be developed. I liked the little Gypsy twist to the harmony in a few places. That was clever.

Sorry for the abrupt ending of "Dwelling in the Dark". It had a smoother ending but, due to a technical difficulty, the smoothness of the concluding measure was cut off. Compositionally, I think I let it end too early, anyway, which is what truly makes it "abrupt", as others have mentioned. I'll try expanding on it later on.

I see you still have the funky C/C# harmonic confusion there (or was it B/C or Bb/B - I don't remember really :mellow:), but in retrospect, the diminished feel does add a neat texture to it (though you should've kept it more consistent). As for the ending, a trick many people like to use in MIDI is to just put a short note where you want the ending to be, and set it's velocity to 0 or 1, so that it doesn't suddenly just cut off. Hope to hear more from you soon :blush:.

Teardrops - WOW! Fantastic! Beuatiful in every way. One small reamark though - i thought i heard a out-of-place chord around 3:30 or so. See if u maybe did something there. Alltogether - Fantastic job!

Dwelling in the dark - nice melody a very colorfull orchestarization, and i even liked the ending (i don't see why is everyone esle complaining about it).

Anxiety - Good job! i adore this modern/impresionistic gig.

All in all i see you have talent to spare! Keep composing!

Yeah, good job pal, but...could you work more with pedal? It looks like you keep it on all the time, which blends all the sounds and makes it difficult to perceive the music.

And, yeah. I sometimes get lazy with managing pedal releases, so I just leave the pedal on for measures and measures at a time. = \ I gotta fix that, I know.
