Banging my head against a wall...

I'm completely lost on how to turn this into a piece... I know it's a great two-piece melody... it's a mid-paced 6/8 starting with "variations on a theme" in c melodic minor, then transitions into a simple A major melody. I'd like to go with a renaissance/medieval style ensemble feel with it(stac/marc strings in the bassline, strings&woodwind in the higher register), but the lead in/out is eluding me... maybe ya'll have some suggestions

Thanks in advance,

-Drew

My english vocabulary isn't that great so I don't understand exactly what you mean with "the lead in/out", and I'm not sure I personally would call it melodic minor but melodic/harmonic scales are problematic terms and I get what you mean anyway so I'll leave it at that.

Anyway I'm assuming you mean the transition between two parts. Since there's no A major melody in the example given I guess you mean this is only the first part of it. From my own experience I find it hard to pull of modulations from keys such as c minor to A major without having it sound a bit forced, that requires great skill I guess. Try having a second part in E-flat major or G major. Then you can easily modulate with sequences, for example c minor - A flat major - F major - B-flat major - > E-flat major.

I get a feeling this would be suitable in a Rondo-form (for example A-B-A-C-A-D etc) where the part with the progression F major - E-flat major would serve as the B-part, then return to the A-part and then go to a new C-part etc.

I donno, maybe I misunderstood you completely. :)
