Song #2 For Musical

Featured Replies

The Reason I've posting music for the musical so slowly is becuase I am only showing them in full orchestration. It's not taking me this long to finish it. If it takes me a month for just one song then I would be screwed. Anyway, enjoy!

Quite nice.

Some lovely sections to the work.

You say it's for a musical, but I don't know the plot, or this particular scene, so I can't say very much about the mood of the piece.

Some good stuff there. You might want to consider giving the audience a bit more to remember from it, as it's a musical, and a nice theme is good, but then again, not every number has to be catchy.

On a technical note, unless your flautist can manage it (I don't even know if it's physically possible) you might want to give some of the higher flute parts to a piccolo, or rewrite the flute part.

I enjoyed the song anyway.

It might be useful to know a bit more.

Is this a song (for a soloist with chorus) or a chorus piece?

I was trying to work out what someone would sing from/in it.

How does it fit in with the rest of the musical? (I haven't got the means to read finale so I can't see the score - sorry.)

I finally downloaded Finale Notepad...

I think this is a very nice song. I really love the main motif, I hope it continues throughout the score.

A few qualms I have. There are a few odd breaks in the vocal line. I'm assuming that they are filled with dialogue, but if not, it might be a little hard to stage an actor that isn't really doing much.

Also, your orchestrations may be a bit large. Considering that this show doesn't really sound like your typical broadway musical, the orchestra will invariably be smaller than what you've envisioned. But it's a good thing that your not just writing an orchestrated score.

There's just one thing that I don't understand. Is Jeff in the room with someone? It seems a little odd that he would be baring his soul this intimately with someone, even if he is high.

Also, a small little note, it would be nice if you used another instrument for Jeff. It's a little confusing since there is a clarinet in the orchestrations, and the people who have to listen to the midi are clueless as to who is singing. I also suggest you put up a PDF for us who don't use Finale.

Overall, great writing. I would love to see the piano-vocal score for this. Remember that if you get a first reading of this, that score may be the only thing that is used, so anything from the orchestrations that you really want to come out, you should add to that score.

Yeah, sorry I left you guys hanging.

Basically he's talking to the audience. The gaps are filled with dialouge. Basically rite now he is saying he has no control and after the song he claims stop using drugs. (Horray!)....or so we think.

Ok... glad the show isn't about rape... or that might be bad. :)

GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!.

I think the orchestra could be smaller... like previously stated.

But, I have no other comments.
