November 19, 200916 yr Hey guys, here is some creepy music I composed, it uses quarter tones, and creepy backwords vocals. http://www.box.net/shared/amcl7fyue6
November 27, 200916 yr bump Hey dude, I think people would post more critics if the audio clip didn't need to be downloaded. I find it more practical to click on a link and hear music automatically. Anyways, I did take the time to listen and here is what I Think: This is atonal music..and even so, it relies too much upon the tonic of the scale. You have some good dissonances going on, and I liked when the orchestra played a forte on a dissonant chord. At times I get the impression that the strings are playing only 3 notes through the whole song. Which samples are you using?
November 29, 200916 yr Author I didn't really intend it to be atonal, (besides the little chromatic/microtonal run at the end) I just added some microtones for an added dissonance effect. So That is probobaly why you say it relies too much on the tonic of the scale. I actually was using a demo of notion for this. The other samples were just me reccording stuff in audacity and reversing it. I think you are right about the strings, the peice was really meant to be more of an ambient thing more than progressive, but yeah, I think I could have varied them a bit. I don't know why it didn't let me play it right from the site instead of having to download it, i've seen other music files on box.net that let you stream it directley from the site, maibe it's because it is a wav, not an mp3? I am still very much an ametuer at composing orchestral music, so I thank you for both your critisims, and compliments.
November 29, 200916 yr It isn't really mainly about downloading the file.....it's more about the size of the file here - 10mb per minute worth of music. .wav is a lossless format, so generally, convert it to .ogg or .mp3 :) Also, I'm not sure whether you'd done so already, but commenting on other people will generally lead to more comments, as people return the favour. YOu have some nice sounding stuff together, and yeah, simple, but actually reasonably effective. However, that chromatic string run just sounds out of place. A sudden fast bit at the end of a quite slow piece????? Maybe you're going to carry on, but at the moment, IMHO the strings don't work. Anyway, nice work overall, and keep at it, you'll soon get better and more advanced!!
