A musical tribute to HP Lovecraft

Featured Replies

Since there was never a film on the horror story "The outsider", I decided to ilustrate the story both with words and music. I am not very satisfied with the results but hell...it could have been worse. Here it is. Do post some feedback, pleese :P

First off, welcome to YC. This is a great way to introduce yourself to our little community. Commenting in a number of posts as you have is also the way to do it. Some of us here make a point of always returning the favor.

Lovecraft is an American Icon and it is nice that you have chosen him to lend a tribute to.

There is an old adage that any motif should not be repeated more than 3 times in a row without variation. As is true with all "rules" this one can be broken, but there are a few places in this piece where it might have been better had you not broken the rules.

Overall the piece flows along nicely, but the second time the voice comes in was a bit startling.

The underlaying themes in the piece work quite well in showing that Lovecraft was basically a Horror novelist. The pics and and paintings show that as well.

Nice work

Thanks for taking the time to listen, Ron.

Could you please point at the theme that I didn't repeat without variation? I'd like to know.

Thank you!

This was fun to listen to. [odd word choice, I know.]

I enjoyed this a lot.

Thanks, Wendell. I like your quote, btw.

You should separate the music so we can listen to it separate. the dialog was distracting and not very interactive. good composition though.

Yeah well, without dialogue it would have felt empty.

Hehe....forgot to comment on this Anyhow.....

This is very effective for bringing you into the spirit of horror. A well constructed piece that I enjoyed listening to. What libraries did you compose this with, EWQL, SD2 etc. etc??? There are very few niggles I can pick in this :), one that the strings in 1.26 are too repettitive. Although there is something going on for the choir, I noticed the strings far more, which made it sound a little like a loop at times. I feel that the cymbal crash is used a little more often... it takes away the effect it gives when used that frequently.

Nothing else I don't like really, so nice stuff, and hope to hear more :phones:
