Time-lapse

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just a short piano piece I composed (read 'slapped together') recently. It's mainly me experimenting with some ideas and sounds, not overly complex. I say 'slapped together' as I'm not too confident about transitions between sections, there's probably room for improvement there. Also the first page of music is a bit messy, I'm not sure if I've notated some parts wrongly or not. Anyway, thanks in advance for any feedback - I recommend listening to the mp3 without the score first.

I found this to be a very touching piece. I love the way you develop the melody and utilize a rich harmonic language to do so. Very good work! I look forward to hearing more works of yours.

Any more Tom? Can you give me a rundown of the harmonies? I enjoyed it a lot.

I don't think that is what they were after tom... but anyway... very good... was this a live recording?

Very unusual, and pretty: I think you named it right, because it has the hypnotic capturing feel of a time-lapse. This is a very touching piece, much better than something "slapped together" has any right to be, xD. Good piece!

Thanks for the kind comments.. pequadcob: thanks- this is actually an audio export from sibelius using the steinway piano from Garritan Personal Orchestra - I probably couldn't play this live without making mistakes.. still, It's good to know the sampled version sounds quite lifelike (I spent quite a while tinkering with playback dynamics!) Serge: Thanks also, I was wondering about the title! I only named the piece once I'd finished writing, which is probably bad practice. All I knew while writing was that it should have a slightly strange quality to it that I couldn't describe.. 'Time-lapse' was the only thing I could think of that seemed to reflect the feel of the piece, so thanks for the reassurance!

I love this work! You create a very unique soundscape through the use of a rather eclectic tonal palette. One of the things that really stands out to me are the textures you use, as well as chord voicing. While your RH uses various motifs, the contrapuntal lines in the LH always follow in a direction that allows it to complete the RH voicings perfectly. Great job, and I look forward to hearing what you post in the future!
