Chuva

Featured Replies

"Chuva" was composed in May 2009 as an composition exercise. This solo piano piece uses a pentatonic language and paraphonic structure. It is divided into 3 sections (ABA') where the second is built from the repetition of a sequence of pitch classes with rhythmic variations, and third uses some motivic materials of the first.

Chuva

Hello Luna

I think this is actually quite a cool piece! It has an asian-y feel to it, in my opinion. The score of course would not download, so I can't give any suggestions there. I do think this might be a tad difficult, due to the octaves going quickly from one place to another.

Overall though, it has some really interesting harmonies and I think you did a great job.

Good luck composing more!

Thanks!

I also thought it was a bit difficult in some parts. But it is not impossible to be played. As I have not tried playing it on piano, I probably need to make changes in writing. The division of parts of each hand was made based on the voices (one for each hand) and not the easiest way to play. This is something that I think about change.

Listening to the whole score... it did give sort of an "Asian-y feel" but that was probably because you were using the black keys, huh? Especially the higher octave ones.

The whole piece gave sort of a dramatic feel. There were some really cool parts. I really like how the pace was very slow at first, but then it built up into the more dramatic parts. I wasn't able to download the score (because it was a .sib and I don't have the software that supports the file) but I can already imagine that you went through the lowest and highest octave that can be covered on the piano.

It probably also has a lot of different articulations because the sound gets really loud and then really soft and it gradually has this pattern that builds. Again, really cool piece. :]

Yes, the "Asian-y feel" is because the pentatonic scala and monophony. As I said in the description: "This solo piano piece uses a pentatonic language and paraphonic structure". I will post the score in PDF now.
