Boss Battle Theme/Club Music

Featured Replies

Well while I was witting this, I thought this sounded like club music. Club music was the original intent of this piece. However, some said it reminded them of a video game they played at one time. So, I decided that this could theoretically be used as a boss battle theme in a video game, or dance music. It is meant to be loop able before the key change + pitch change. This type of music is completely foreign to me. Not my general genre of music but nothing wrong with exploring. I haven't been as active on the forum lately. Partly due to school, partly due to being involved with other things. Hopefully I'll be more active in the near future.Any feedback/critique as always is greatly appreciated.I composed this is 4 hours give or take. The inspiration behind this was really the fact that I spent 3 weeks working on 56 seconds of this orchestral piece I'm working on and needed some sort of break.

Boss Battle Theme/Club Music

nice! im not into electronic music , but i enjoyed listening to it , and yea it has the sense of an old dos game hehe . you might find better reviews from musicians that are into this kind of music

Hey,

It is good your main theme and harmony, which sofyware did you use to create this ?

I Also do electronic music to have myself a break of orchestral pieces, I have too spent a lot of time in small segments, I think that's natural. About the rest, the main theme is always in the same synth element, maybe you could use a different one when modulating the key. Some percussions, handclap and toms are too spread in PAN, if you're using 0-64 as left and 65-128 as right I would say that 40 for left and 90 for right is better, or leave it that way but add some reverb or something to send it to the other channel.

Sounds good...

Thank you for the feedback!

@abd - thank you for listening ^.^ Glad you liked it

@Sys- I used finale 2009 and audacity to create this. I have recently downloaded a lot of other free programs to make electronic music with also.

Thankyou!

Hey, wow, this is a cool beat. My only complaint is the main voice, has a repetitive melody. I see where you tried different variations, but to me, they seemed too similar to each other. Perhaps make the variations more differentiable? Just my opinion though. Overall, I liked it very much.

@Gamma- I definitely see what you mean. I have been struggling for the longest time with trying to variate a melody. I think I have been improving in that field... but still have a long ways to go! I'll be sure to include that in the next electronic piece I will be composing!

Nice introduction. Your rhythm needs to come up in the mix just a little bit - it's barely audible. The theme is somewhat similar to that Eddie Murphy movie from the 1980s... I can't think of the name of it. Your transition at around 1:10 was rather abrupt. I think a little variance in your overall thematic material here would be good. Perhaps play with the lead a little bit. As this is club, I didn't quite hear a break down of your material any where. Did you decide to forgo it?

Rhythm needs to come out more - alrighty.

I was hoping the introduction would sound good.

The transition is abrupt. I didn't do it on purpose, but after listening to it for a while, it did not seem like a death-blow to the piece.

...I have no clue what a break down is... lol

In dance and club music who have what is called a break down. It is usually a lull in the overall texture. Generally, you fill the space in with pad's and your melody and rhythm.

not a bad go, but what's going on with the panning? your bass, your lead and your pads are in one ear, and the drums in the other. it makes me feel like I'm tipping over. ;-)

Were you maybe having trouble with muddy instruments, and you panned everything so hard to keep everything out of each other's way?

Wow, this really reminds me of something... I can't quite place it. The end of it sounds like D ^A ^D D C A E D.

DAMN NETWORK! 60% of the time I write a reply, it deletes it! Gah!

I really like the idea of combining boss battle with house. They both have lotsa energy and driving rhythms.

With your piece, if you wanted to be a better game track, I would sequence your midi better so that the instruments are not repeating the same velocity over and over again, leading to that unrealistic synthy sound.

As a house track, I think you need to change your instrumentation a little. For starters, I think your drum beat has to be much louder in the mix. I found a neat example for you to compare yourself to. This track is somebody's club remix of FFVII One Winged Angel. Listen to the looping, forward-moving, drum beat it uses. Listen to how loud it is in the mix. It's not drowning out the other sounds but it's definitely in the mid/foreground.

Other than that, the rhythms you use vary nicely throughout the track.

Nice work, Wendell

I do understand some links are needed sometimes for the discussion of a piece but..... check the Reviewers section...wacko.gif

I could see someone rapping over it. Even got the chorus and verse thing going on.
