Conferencia Extraterrestre

Conferencia Extraterrestre Op.23 (Extraterrestrial Conference)

This is the most strange, weird, eccentric work I’ve ever made. Completely atonal, actually there are a very few notes (only a Cello and Oboe theme) but mostly sounds, effects, hums, there are also modificated and reverse Tam-tam samples, modificated "Darth Vater" sounds, Phone tones, Pure Sine-wave sounds, heart beep Pitched Church Bell, Cello, Oboe.

Reverb Effects mainly, the phone tone plays random notes using arpeggiator, there are also very glissandos on tam-tam samples and so the Church bell. The atonal melody of the cello is kind of dodecaphonic (not strictly), and it was created entirely with FL Studio 8 XXL Producer Edition, (but don't try to find the samples in he FL library, they aren't there, they're mine)

There is a complex part that reminds me “Gruppen by Stockhausen. (at 3:25 & 10:16)

It took to myself to listen it several times in order to understand the character of the piece, I share with you this Cosmic Music.

I was thinking in something like that.tongueanti.gif

this is a fun albeit dark conference, though i think some of samples (midi - oboe cello -ones?) could use more inner surgery. i enjoy the flow and sudden bursts of sounds out of nowhere. overall cosmic and clinical feel is pretty neat and well variated.

by the way, who/what was on the other phone line, if you managed to catch anyone(thing)? :D

actually I don't know, the conference is between Aliens, there are no Humans, even the Cello is played by one

... I guess there were talking about (i did delete the part was here)

EDIT: I made a comment in other website about the new flu and a big misunderstanding happened, so I came back to edit this last post and tell you that is not my intention to offend anybody or reducing the very serious level of this matter.

Sounds like they're having a fiery debate going on at some point. I'm really feeling this one.

you mean the sudden strike of sounds... well it may be understood in many ways ... I like the 2nd strike at 10:16 because comes from complete silence.

I think I may create another conference... but I have to get some new samples or it will sound very similar... "Conferencia Subacuatica" (Underwater Conference)... what do you think ?.. sounds a good project...?

It sounds like a great idea, I think it will be even better than this one.

Actually very good, Daniel. I'm not an electronic composer myself (although my teacher writes electro-acoustic stuff) but I found myself thinking that the way the work was paced was very appealing even to somebody who deals with more conventional sounds. By pacing I mean the rate of presentation of material and the varying complexity of the textures. I see what you mean about it sounding a little like Stockhausen, although I was reminded of Ligeti and Xenakis as well. Just two things - firstly, some of the samples like the 'space computer/telephone' sounded just a little bit cliche, due to use in old sci-fi television and movies. I appreciate that you probably don't have the sort of equipment that Stockhausen did, but consider using sounds that are a bit more personal. Also the cello/oboe stuff didn't always feel quite as if it belonged to the character of the piece. But well done, it was very convincing and I kept listening all the way through like it was a real conversation!

Thanks for your comment...

the telephone pattern is a bit monotonous indeed, it's just it wasn't easy to create that sound with a simple phone tone, it took me time to do it and a little hard work, so i did create only 1 pattern that is repeated several (too many maybe) times, there is a second but very simple, I mean i didn't create several as complex as the one is heard at the first minute... I will try to keep that learning for the next piece.

With the Cello/oboe maybe I committed a mistake, I'm not sure, the thing is that I made modifications to the samples to make them "different" but it seems it would be better to leave them unchanged... the cello tends to change in the long notes and the oboe has a filter to make it sound darker.

What I do think sound very cool are those deep metal sounds like huge bells, like the one in the very end... dissipating slowly...

thanks for listening.

Hi! Sounds fine, but is all in one plane, maybe you can use more the R and L combination and the change of the volumes of the things that you use, making appear that one thing i away and other here. But in other song, this song is perfect like it is.

I have listened to this now and am not convinced it is atonal. In fact it is mostly tonally centered in a number of different keys throughout the piece. It does have some dissonance in it, but that doesn't make it atonal.

BTW... Is this all of the posts that were missing?

If so, then keep this in mind. When you moved the piece, it went to the last date on the piece which was "Posted 18 June 2009 - 07:24 AM". So the piece was just way down the page. Whenever you move a thread, you have to add a post to it to get the thread to the top of the page.

Ron

It's pretty nice.

Thanks both,

yes Ron, I did post the "test" to bring it back, but I will be more careful in my next move...

Is weird to me that you find the piece not very far from tonality, for me this is way far, or our conception or tonaloty is different, for me Tonality is having a tonic note as bass and a scale based on that note, I didn't follow any scale or based something in a particular note, actually there are not very much "notes", ... is more "sounds".

Anyway, thanks for listening.
