Okeanos

Flute duet with backing guitar. Composed when I was in 10th grade for a music class, and played live for a school concert. Comments and constructive criticism encouraged.

Okeanos

Welcome to the forum! I think you will enjoy the feedback you can get here and will find it a welcoming environment. Please comment on the work of others as well. I love the setting of flute and guitar. I composed a piece called Echoes for flute and guitar that you can check out if you look at my profile as well. I think you did a great job with this overall and the flutes have a very pleasing sound throughout. Congrats on having the piece performed live. Do you have a live recording? I would love to hear that. Regardless, I think you you did a nice job creating a flowing piece of music and for what it does, it does it very well. I would like to perhaps a little bit more of a contrasting section at some point. Nice job though.

There is a Philip Glass kind of minimalism about the accompaniment and I like the melodic line - more varied than Glass. This is nice really... seems otherworldly a bit. Okeanos is a good title too. This is a real solid little piece in form and beauty. Well done. I enjoyed it.

Unfortunately I do not have a recording of the live performance. However the performance did not go all that well anyways. The flute players were unfamiliar with the odd time signature and had a little trouble. But it was still nice to be able to play it live.

I think this is just wonderful. The flute melodies are beautiful. I really dug the bit at 1:20 where the guitar strums on the beats and the flutes have that 'call and return' going on in the melody. I like it a lot as it is, but I could hear it going somewhere new by changing the rhythm up in the guitar accompaniment with some syncopations and maybe exploring some different motion with the flutes. Harmonically, I wouldn't want it to stray too far from the field it's in. Again, I think this is really nice.
