Valse-Scherzo for Clarinet, Bassoon, and Piano

Featured Replies

I was listening to way too much Chopin one day and thought, "Huh. Why don't I write a fun waltz like that?" Originally for solo piano, but after listening to it over and over again, I figured it could use some extra voicing. Not at all a serious piece. In fact, I believe that I wrote this to contrast all the serious work I had been doing. A very classical and Chopin-like waltz, but then...well...Chopin gets angry. Or something. And then he...gets over it? Well, regardless, it was tons of fun to write!

the mid-section was the best. I think the one you call angry. Some excursions away from the overly tonal context you start in...

I think its too long. There is little development. The rhythm is dragging on too long. The variation around 5:00 is much welcomed.

I think you repeat a bit too much (but I can't control since there is no score, is this still possible?)

The return of the opening theme was short and effective.

nice job

nice combination - bassoon rules :P sounds almost Mozartian in the begining or like Louis Spohr - might just be the clarinet. I hear string sound even though it written for clarinet, bassooon and piano? must be the midi adding to the piano part or something.. It is a bit long maybe, in total. It starts like a kind of piece you expect to be over in a minute or two - it sounds miniature - maybe cos of the rate of harmonic change - which is fast at a few moments. I can hear the Chopin but it is not so overt - just early romantic. some nice piano writing - especially the trills at cadence points. good work - just shorter maybe and maybe vary the left hand of the piano more during the statement of the main melody - sounds like fun tho :)

Very cool!

But only if in the right place, and the right time, I think. This would, I think, not be a good choice to play at a concert, or something specifically for music. There's just so little development, except for about 3 1/2 minutes (!!!) through the piece, and for one paying close attention to the music, like me and others here, it gets awful exhausting and a chore after a while. But hearing this at a party or gathering, or something, would be a total mood enhancer: the playfulness is always there, all throughout the piece (even at the "angry" part, which could easily be construed as "mock-angry"! :)), and I'm sure you'd be met with a vigorous round of applause!

Thanks for sharing, very nice work! :D
