Help me name my composition :D

Featured Replies

Hey guys, this is my 2nd composition. Im only 15 so go easy on me :) I would really love some help naming this thing as unfortunately the school assignment I have composed it for requires the composition to carry a title a little more creative than composition II... Don't worry if you can't think of a name, feedback on the peice is also much appreciated. Thanks! :D

Help me name my composition :D

edit: Just uploaded the score for those who are interested :)

"Descent into Insanity"

"Instability"<<Don'tknow if that's a word.

"Unstable"

A good piece, fyi. :)

Nice start, with a solid theme, if one overemphasizing that "off" note.

You've got a good sense of how to hide themes under other voices.

From :30 to :50, I'm concerned about the quick break in tone, and again at 1:10; You've got some interesting ideas, but they're not developed. Break down each idea, and fully develop it.

You seem to shift quickly in feel and style, but many times it's feels that have been tread before... There's a fine line between recognition and cheeze.

Return to the A is again abrupt, but not jarring. The development here is pretty cool, going into other ideas.

Oh man, really? That ending... don't worry about kitsch. End it in a way that sounds right for the piece, not in a way that "ends" it, if you know what i mean.

Overall, it's pretty surprising -- there are moments that remind, but nothing is copied and you've done a solid job of making it your own.

Thank you very much for the feedback. I really appreciate your analysis :) I agree with a lot of what you have to say and some of my linking of ideas is a tad dodgy ;). It definitely feels a bit rushed, never dwelling on anything for very long, but I'm struggling to connect themes and make it convincing :hmmm:

Thanks a ton!

This is a nice piece, pterodactyl :)

--There's a good sense of interesting, "accidental-heavy" harmony in the piece. When I first started off composing, I didn't want to be very adventurous with my harmonies and such, so it's good to see that you're already doing interesting, substantial things with your music ;) Not that there's really anything inherently wrong at all with simple or tonal harmonies: it's just that a composer will realistically not be able to continue using only them in the long run, so kudos.

--Good articulation through-out the piece as well: the arpeggios feel like they fit, as do the rit. and other such things as the cresc.

--Here's my main beef: as brought out by Ferk, there's an overall feeling of not knowing exactly where you really want to go. With pieces like this, it's generally a good idea to establish a foothold on the listener's mind by introducing a solid melody that can then be repeated as a motif, so that you really stick in the listener's mind, and repeated listens are warranted. This will surely come in time if you keep at it, but you're already well on your way  Just take it easy!

Thanks for sharing, this was very enjoyable :D (although just a tad long-winded...) I'll give it an 8/10, overall

Does sound baroque a bit, allt he while being intense and powerful. Although I'll agree with the previous comments on it jsut floating aroubd without a definite goal. Enjoyablke nonetheless.

Thanks for the responses guys! It's definitely pretty unsettled but the main theme repeats a little bit. I might try and rewrite it someday
