A Flutist's Jazz

This is a short jazz piece, I don't normaly use swung eight notes but this time I did.

Sounds good, Phantom, but can you maybe lay back on the swing just a bit (not in your writing, but in the midi)? Very straight forward blues feeling you have here. It works in terms of melodies (although it would be nice to branch away from the standard blues scale), but it doesn't feel like large ensemble writing to me because you have so many doublings.

I really like the sound you have here! I think you leave the swing a bit in the longer fast runs, because different timings just get muddled, but otherwise I loved the melodies and rhythms you created. Great piece.

You have a really good Jazz sound going, but i only hear flute in the beginning and the end of the piece. I think the title would be more appropriate if you wrote in more flute in the middle of the song

Sound like a jazz quartet. Cool! I especially like the double time you throw in there and the parallel motion.

Rather simple in the harmony area, though. Straight up moderate blues, huh? Nice job. I agree about the strangeness of calling it "A flutist's jazz" and yet not really giving the flute a prominent place in the composition.

I agree that the midi quantization of the swing values is pretty hokey, but it's understood that this is simply a midi representation.

I think this tune would do with a little deviation in the middle from the "blues sound" you've got. It feels like it wants to explore a bit more harmonically and thematically.

I kind of see connections with Coltrane, with the focus on the motif; but I think you really don't use the instruments in the best way, and I really can't feel that bass solo.

To me, this just seems weak.
