Symphony no.1 - Movement 1, Presto

Featured Replies

1st Movement (Presto) of my first Symphony. The piece is scored for large romantic orchestra and is largely influenced by film music.

Symphony no.1 - Movement 1, Presto

Good effort! This works quite well as a movement. You keep the music moving and use the whole orchestra as well as having some good themes. I would like two things to give a more detailed review: firstly a score so I can look at your orchestration and can point out what I am referring to in the piece, and secondly could you tell me what you plan to do in the rest of the piece - how many movements and what sort of structures?

I liked the opening, except I think that the woodwind melodies are too fast to be recognizable sometimes. The strings were great though. The heavy brass section was a good add-in, especially the hammering piano, try adding that to other instruments. Overall, lots of great writing and ideas, but also lots of stuff where I didn't know what I had just heard, so I'd try to make them more recognizable.

Wow, very fast and challenging. A score would help to see what's possible, but I like a lot of what I hear. You know, I could imagine this for concert band more easily than for orchestra, but the midi might be skewing my judgment. At this point my main criticism is continuity. I feel like the work is a collection of disconnected ideas rather than a solid symphonic movement or short work.

it look like your music

I second the previous post, the first thing I thought of upon listening was Jupiter ;) It effectively sounds like film music. There is however a lot of exposing new ideas and not a lot of developing previous ones. Still, this was pretty epic :santa:
