May 29, 200619 yr For you all, a collection: "Sudnegel". There are three compositions, but more are coming. Post your comments and don't come to tell me they are "unplayable". They are not, for the ones who could think about it, movementos. This is just a partial collection. My goal: 32 partitures. Enjoy! PD. They are not the originals (they are incomplete).
May 29, 200619 yr no, they're certainly no impossible to play. they're sort of intermediate level, nothing extremely virtuosic. While on the whole, this is not a style of music that appeals to me, I found the 3rd one to be the most interesting musically. The first time the abrupt stops appear was jarring, but it works when it's repeated. My one criticism is that when you suddenly drop the rythme to eighth notes it's too brief. The piece needs a sort of "B" section at a different pace. As it is, the sudden rythmic shift IS jarring. the 4th piece was just too "parallel" harmonically for me. It held no musical interest, sounding more like a study than a descriptive piece. Over-all, your pieces all have that "etude" quality to them. There is something missing for them to be fully descriptive. Maybe a little more variety harmonically and melodically (which would be permitted even in a quazi-minimalist setting) would help.
May 30, 200619 yr Author You're right: they are all ètudes, but I must recall that they are improvisations I made for a Improvisation Contest. Besides, the originals are in my DataTraveler, not in your hard drive. I have them to make a Flute Duet, because "Sudnegel" (for my own sake) is going to be for Flute. But, after all, you're right. I need more "improving" rather than "improvisation". Thanks!
June 13, 200619 yr I agree - the third one is my favourite! What does "Sudnegal" mean? Sudnegel is a very old language, but also the name of a book my little brother wrote not too long ago. It contents twenty-five chapters, so my brother wants to compose four pieces for each chapter (makes up 80 pieces). He's working on a chorale, but he will return to this thread when he finishes.
June 14, 200619 yr I vote that #3 should be renamed "The Carpal Tunnel Etude" Sheesh, I'm glad I'm not a classically trained pianist.
June 18, 200619 yr Author I vote that #3 should be renamed "The Carpal Tunnel Etude" Sheesh, I'm glad I'm not a classically trained pianist. What do you mean with that name?
June 18, 200619 yr What do you mean with that name? Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is an affliction that is related to repetative motion with your hands. I'm referring to the pounding the left hand takes on your peice.http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/b...me?OpenDocument http://www.sportstouch.com/ArticleMusicianNightmare.htm From wikipedia: Symptoms are commonly exacerbated by forceful and repetitive use of the hand and wrists in industrial occupations, including jack hammer operators, meat packers, computer users and musicians.
June 27, 200619 yr Author I just tried to compose something like Belá Bartók's "Hungarian Folk Dance". I think I've made it. I'm with a Toccatta for this "Sudnegel" Thematic. Hope to finish it on summer vacations
