Anamorphosis Behaviour

Featured Replies

Through this piece i tried to express my disagreement to people that have 2 or more faces by adapting a technique used in painting (anamorphosis) . In painting, Anamorphosis technique is deforming an image, here i used to suggest the deforming of human personality, by creating themes which lately become counterthemes or even harmonies. I used only modal language. This is first ever completed attempt to create a classical piece. I'm very influenced by romanian 20th century composers like : Enescu,Jora,Constantinescu but also by composers like Bartok,Ligeti,Stravinsky,Debussy,Ravel.

Members use to feel unable to comment orchestral pieces without the score, if you could provide us the score this would change a lot, meanwhile, I can comment this:

I felt several nationalisms here, not only romanian, it is an interesting mix.

Your piece has many good ideas, but some of them show once and never come back, there's no development on many of those, and this is not a huge mistake, it's only that your work could be expanded to 15 minutes and let the listener to appressiate all your ideas better.

one very clear example is in 2:24, that idea appears greatly but then seems out of place because one didn't listen where is it come from, and where is going to...

In 3:46 there is indeed development of previous segments at 2:49 first with Flute+Harp, then the entire orchestra, this is what you could do with several of the previous non developed segments, (not all of them of course, sometimes they are just fill-in or breaks parts)

Very good at 4:18.

By the way, there trumpets+trombones+tuba are ok on right, but horns need to be at left (or viceversa) together in the same side brass parts get unclear sometimes between trumpets/horns.

Which sofwate render this ? sounds better than many other Finale I've listened..

i'll come back with a more detailed reply but i wanna answer the last point right now. This piece is worked in Sibelius 6 and after that i've been midi imported into cubase for a better sound, where i used East West Symphonic Orchestra Platinum + Pro XP.

Excellent, I also export to Cubase to set every note corretly, I guess those recordings I've heard are in Finale but without fixing anything, almost automatic, that's why they sound like that.

Ok, I'll be around...

Ok, i'm back.

The main reason i didn't posted my score is that i'm a bit complexed about the fact that i haven't studied classical composition in school (only pop!). So i'm a bit embarassed about possible mistakes :D, but i'll try to pass this. First of all please give me an advice about making pdf files, i don't have a clue. Maybe recommend me a good pdf creator.

Passing this things, i must say thank you for your appreciation. Yes it's not only romanian "sound" . I'm very influenced by modal music.

Regarding the development of themes, well, i kinda wanted to surprise the audience. I tried to make a descrptive piece but permanently surprising, considering the fact that i'm talking about two-multi faces people that change their point of view .

There are several methods to create a PDF from your Nonation software

1) your Notation Software (Sibelius, Finale etc) may have the function to save/export as PDF

2) you can install a virtual PDF printer, you Print your file (from any software) using that virtual printer and it will create a PDF of whatever are you printing.

Adobe Acrobat Professional installs that printer automatically, if you don't have it (Adober Reader only) you can download a free version of other virtual printers...

We also have a secion about his here in YC:

About the possible mistakes on your score, I understand you kinda fear the possible critics, but in the other hand, think that you might be making the same mistakes until someone else tell you "this is not right, this is HOW you could do it instead"
