May 29, 201015 yr Wow, you wrote this in one class? Great job! I like this better than your other piece, it's more fluent and has more emotion, even if the emotion is slightly darker for this one. I find with your pieces that everything comes together properly, but the melodies and very memorable at all, I think you need to work on that the most. Otherwise, you know how to implement harmonies, orchestrate and set moods and speeds very well.
May 29, 201015 yr Considering you wrote this while in a class, this is very impressive. I your intention was to write a piece based on a mood I think you nailed it. This really would fit perfectly in a film score, perhaps at a moment where a character discovers a strange world; it has a bit of a surreal quality about it. My main concern is that it's really hard to find a main melody anywhere. I first thought the main melody was at 0:40 but than I never heard it again after that moment. I find that the best pieces are the ones you find yourself humming the melody of after you hear it. So, I would suggest you work more on a melody that can match the mood you've already established and this piece will be golden. Excellent job, J.T. Hanrahan (on a side note, I would recommend you post your scores in .pdf instead of .sib. Not everyone on the forum has Sibelius which can make it hard for others to do a more thorough critic. I think there's a thread here that gives ways to do that.)
