"Ritual" for Violin and Piano

(I'm not sure whether to put this here or in atonal. It is somewhat modern, but there is certainly a central pitch and a degree of consonance. I've never been told it sounds extremely modern.)

I wrote and performed this piece last summer at Interlochen Arts Camp. While it does not reflect my current compositions, it certainly holds a special place for me as one of my first pieces I enjoy. While the beginning noodles around with various themes, the middle and end are extremely motivic. I played piano on the recording and a friend played violin.

Certainly a good recital piece - (I won't ask how you made the rapping sounds). It isn't atonal by any means but I sense the primative kind of sound you were aiming for. In fact you've done well using a violin (lovely playing too - really tasteful vibrato).

Congrats. That's one worth keeping on the books.

:D

I really liked that. I bet it was intriguing to see performed live, I can feel that in the recording.

You said it doesn't reflect your current compositions, but have you composed other pieces in a similar style?

I especially enjoyed the conclusion, appx. 3:50 onward, it was very intense! The triplets at around 4:05 on were very effective in building toward a sort of raging climax. The 4:08+ violin dissonances against them were great, in my opinion. Good job!
