Variaties op een Nederlands Volkslied

Featured Replies

Just a little something I pulled out one evening. Needed a bit of "final" touches in the morning... Pay in mind, that the score doesn't look so beautiful yet, without dynamics, tempo variances etc.The variations have been made to a famous Dutch folk song, so Royreintjes, for example (hehheh, Ik weet dat je nederlands bent :D), you might recognise the tune ("Een mandje vol amandelen").Thema + 7 variations.

famous? Ik ken het liedje niet, (I do not know that song; and yeah, I'm dutch too :P )

I really liked variation III, all of it, the move to the minor, the more exciting harmonies, the end in Eb. All excellent features that all the others (except maybe var. V, the second best) are lacking. Speaking of var. V, really good is that you transposed the second line of the song a fourth up.

Var II ought to be notated as tuplets (4x3, not 1x12), like you did in var. V.

I never heard this either? This sounds pretty good though :D but, I don't think I agree on the little grace F note in m7 and 15. I will have to take another look at this piece when I have a bit more time. My general impression was good! To repeat what jrcramer said, the III was the most interesting in my opinion too. I wouldnt have mind if you went on a little journey through the variations with harmonies ever more deviating from the original, only to return to the original in the final variation. But, apart from the overall form, I think the variations are pretty solid. This makes me want to work on a couple of variations I wrote on al die willen te kaap'ren varen (one of which I uploaded).
